Bio

Denise Fujiwara choreographs, dances, dramaturgs and teaches, based from Tkaronto/Toronto.  Moving Parts, danced site-specific with a local choir, uplifts with pop songs in 3 part harmony.  EUNOIA, a multimedia adaptation of Christian Bök’s prize winning bestseller, premiered at Toronto’s World Stage, was nominated for three Dora Mavor Moore Awards, named in NOW’s Top 5 Dance Shows of 2014, and continues to tour.  Short films created with filmmaker William Yong, include Noppera-bo, which won a 2020 One-Reeler Short Film Competition Award of Excellence in Los Angeles, and Valley of Shadow won a 2024 Cine Paris Festival Award for Cinematography.  Her six solo dance concerts garnered praise and toured to festivals across Canada, the United States, South America, Europe and Asia.  She is Artistic Director of Fujiwara Dance Inventions, a co-founder of CanAsian Dance and a recipient of  the Toronto Arts Foundation’s Muriel Sherrin Award for international achievement in dance.
