Elena Belyea

Bio
Elena (or Eli) Belyea (they/she) is an award-winning writer, actor, producer, and director from amiskwaciwâskahikan (ᐊᒥᐢᑲᐧᒋᐋᐧᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ, colonially known as Edmonton on Treaty 6 territory). Their work has been produced across Turtle Island and internationally. She’s Artistic Director of independent theatre company Tiny Bear Jaws and a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada’s Playwriting program. They were a member of Nightwood Theatre’s 2016-2017 Write from the Hip Playwriting Unit, and Tarragon Theatre’s 2018-2019 RBC Emerging Playwright-In-Residence. Her play “Smoke” won the Sterling Award for Outstanding Indie Production, and was recently published by Playwrights’ Canada Press. They were a member of Spindle Film’s inaugural Trans and Non-Binary Film Mentorship Program, and are also half of queer sketch duo “Gender? I Hardly Know Them” (@genderihardlyknowthem).
